Doorbells, Cameras, Intercoms and Thermostats

Each smart device has its own power needs. A video doorbell needs a transformer with enough voltage, and many older chime transformers fall short, which leads to reboots and dropped video. Wired security cameras need power at each mounting spot, from an outdoor-rated outlet or a low-voltage cable run. Intercom systems need cable between stations and a power supply. Smart thermostats often need a C-wire for steady 24-volt power. When these needs go unmet, devices drop offline, drain batteries or quit in cold weather. We look at the device and the wiring together and fix the power side before we mount anything.

Devices We Install

How We Do It

Clean Installs, Inside and Out

Outdoor devices face rain, snow and summer heat, so we use weather-rated boxes and seal each opening in the wall. For cameras, we plan the views with you first: driveway, front door, back yard and side gates. We run cable through walls, attics and basements where we can, so you don't see wires stapled across the siding. Inside, we mount intercom stations and thermostats at a comfortable height and keep holes small. Electrical Hazards, Inc. holds City of Philadelphia license #37352, so any new circuit or outlet we add for a device goes in to the National Electrical Code, with a permit when one is required.

How We Install

  • Camera views planned with you
  • Cable hidden where possible
  • Weather-rated outdoor boxes
  • New outlets or circuits to code
  • Each device tested and online

Devices That Work Together

Smart devices are more useful when they share one app or one hub. Before you buy, we can help you pick a doorbell, cameras and a thermostat that work with the same system, whether that is Google Home, Amazon Alexa or Apple Home. If you already bought your devices, we install those. At the end, we connect each one to your Wi-Fi, check the signal at every mounting spot and show you how to use the app. For light switches, dimmers and whole-home lighting control, see our smart home integration service.

What You Get at the End

  • Devices connected to your Wi-Fi
  • Signal checked at each device
  • An app walkthrough with you
  • Devices you already own installed
  • A tidy, finished look

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you install a wired video doorbell if I have no doorbell wiring?
Often, yes. We can run low-voltage wire from a new transformer. If running wire is not practical, a battery model is the fallback.
Do security cameras need an outlet at each camera?
Wired cameras need power at each spot. It can come from an outlet, a low-voltage power supply, or one network cable that carries power and data, called PoE.
What does an intercom installation involve?
We run cable between the door station and the indoor units, mount the power supply and test audio, video and the door release if your system has one.
My thermostat has no C-wire. Can you still install a smart one?
Yes. We can add a C-wire from the furnace or air handler, or install an adapter made for your thermostat.
Where should outdoor cameras go?
Most homes start with the front door, driveway and back entry. We plan angles with you and avoid spots that look into a neighbor's windows.
